Barcelona — Basilica of Our Lady of Mercy
Basilica of Our Lady of Mercy is located on the waterfront of 200 meters south-east of the old city of Barcelona, in the Gothic Quarter on pooschadi plaza de la Mercè.
This baroque church was built in 1765 by architect-75g Zhosepom Mas i Dordalem. Dedicated to the Virgin of Mercy - patron saint of Barcelona.
The first church on the site verily was built in 13th century and enlarged in the Gothic style in the 14-15 centuries. But in the 18th century, it was decided to erect a new building. In 1888 was vozveden large dome - a work by Joan Martorell, decorated with the image of the Virgin Mary, unichtozhennym in 1936 and restored in 1956.
Double decker discreet facade is decorated with pilasters and Corinthian ordera has volutes curved paths typical of the Baroque period. In 1870, from the front of the street calle Ample to the Basilica of the Virgin Mary was put in gotichesky facade of the 15th century, having previously been part of the church of St. Michael.
In terms of the temple has the shape of a cross with latinskogo nefom central and two lateral, as well as chapels placed between the buttresses. The interior is decorated in the rococo style, bogato otdelan decorated with marble and stucco. The image of the Virgin Mare de Déu de la Mercè was created in 1361g and is attributed to the sculptor Pere Moraguès.
